Training

Working together to enhance the opportunities for
Amateur Radio across the World.

To be involved in Amateur Radio and the world of radio listening you do not need a licence. This may seem a bit of a surprise but many Radio Amateurs start life as listeners, a skill which will become very useful to you in the future. You may sometimes hear the term ‘Short Wave Listener’ (abbreviated to ‘SWL’) this is the title of a Non-licenced Radio Amateur.

However if you wish to be involved in the exciting world of transmitting then you definitely need a licence. So how do you go about acquiring your licence?

There are 3 levels of licence for Radio Amateurs which we can help you to achieve at Tynemouth Amateur Radio Club:

1 Foundation

2 Intermediate

3 Advanced

These vary in degree of knowledge required and the frequency privileges granted on their achievement.
